Hello, my name is Mark Ramsey, I’m chief data officer for Samsung Mobile in the United States. There’s usually a lot of questions around a CDO role and if the focus for the role is more on data and being a data steward for the organization, or on analytics and the use of the data. For me, personally, it’s critical that it actually combines those two functions. So really to maximize the success of the role requires that linkage between understanding and organizing the data, as well as analyzing and using the data to drive business value.
If you don’t have both of those than really you run the risk of just being a long-term strategic focus of data governance or data quality, and you don’t drive the business value back to the organization. It really does need that combination between the organizing of the data and the analytics for driving the business value out of the data.
Mark has moved on from this role since this interview.
