Driving Softlayer and BlueMix Partner Adoption

This week we held the Federal Summit with FCW at the Reagan Center in Washington, D.C. Several important new IBM offerings were announced at the event including the IBM Softlayer Federal datacenters, Federal Softlayer Security Operations Centers, and the BlueMix Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Acceleration program. My team has been hard at work on these initiatives helping partners understand now to implement BlueMix application integration and deploy their offerings onto Softlayer IaaS. Technical experts like Jeff Tennenbaum and Michael Flores of the IBM Federal CTO team worked closely with IBM partners to facilitate their migration to SoftLayer and integrate BlueMix components like the Mobile Quality Assurance (MQA) component into new or existing offerings. They also showed off several very compelling demos at the Federal Summit this week.

True technologists are fairly immune to marketing hype even if it comes from within. And as the CTO my team has the privilege and sometimes challenging task of making new offerings work seamlessly. So you can imagine our surprise as to how easy and well-designed we found the BlueMix PaaS solutions. We were pleasantly surprised at how quickly we integrated BlueMix components into existing vendor offerings both mobile and cloud based.

One such partner, NoticeandComment.com, an Open Data government service, integrated BlueMix application management components into their existing solution over a couple of days. Their chief architect, Jason Schwartz-Glassner, attended the Summit as a partner evangelist. He conveyed a very compelling message on the value of IBM Softlayer and BlueMix around the growing buzz that government and commercial start-up companies and entrepreneurs have recognized IBM’s cloud leadership and innovation around PaaS and DevOps offerings. In fact, he suggested that while the innovation was ground breaking, folks are proactively working to on-board BlueMix based Softlayer services primarily because of IBM’s partner acceleration programs like BlueMix Garage and the Federal BlueMix Acceleration Program. These no or low-cost programs are aimed at helping smaller entrepreneurial companies that are driving innovation through cloud, mobile and insight driven big data solutions adopt BlueMix and Softlayer services to accelerate innovation across their deployments. Contact me directly if you need additional information or are interested in the Federal Bluemix Acceleration Program. More information can be found on BlueMix at BlueMix.net or on the IBM Cloud Marketplace (ibm.com/cloud/marketplace).
