Finance leaders are in a better position from ever to move from the “back of the enterprise boat,” simply staring back at the wake and serving as “back office” scorekeepers and reporters of past performance, to captains at the helm of the boat, helping the company to predict and capitalize on market growth opportunities, chart the course of the company and discover new ways to dramatically improve efficiency and save money.
The advent of advanced, predictive analytics, the ability to rapidly integrate big data from multiple sources, and the combination of cloud and mobility to provide real-time access to information anytime, anywhere in the world, is profoundly changing Finance and further edifying the importance of their leadership role within the C-Suite.
Workday is leading the foray into cloud based solutions for Finance, offering a way to gain rapid insight, improve security and compliance, integrate globally, consolidate systems and streamline financial processes. In effect, its bringing cloud solutions into the mix to fundamentally modernize the way Finance works.
As IBM Global Business Services partners with Workday to provide Finance transformation and outsourcing, cloud solution implementation, data integration and advanced analytics capabilities, we’re seeing clients in multiple industries that are realizing great success. For example, a major grocer, hoping to become more strategic and agile while getting increasingly frustrated with legacy systems, worked with IBM to put a new Workday talent management system in place. The project has been one of the most successful and large scale global Workday payroll implementations to date.
The result? Team members are loving the ease of use, data is more visible across the enterprise, new store openings are much easier, and processes have been streamlined. The grocer will achieve improved usability and enhanced analytical reporting across HR, dramatically reduce costs, and support their future corporate plans for growth, sustainability and customer service.
In another example, IBM helped a young, rapidly growing online hospitality company to implement Financial Accounting, Banking, Procurement, Supplier / Customer Account and Business Asset capabilities of Workday. Again, they are really benefiting from focused solutions that address business issues, packaged together in one complete system that provides analytical insight, with the ability to adapt and even become smarter over time.
To me, these examples sound like moving from the “back of the boat,” to the front of the boat, charting a course for the future with Workday and IBM.
