Show what you know! Learners can earn skill badges for all IBM courses on edX

Share this post:

Today, IBM and edX launched skill badges for all IBM courses on edX.  Learners developing their skills in AI, cloud, cybersecurity, data science, mainframe – working to advance their careers or start a new one – have another tangible proof point of the knowledge they gain in an IBM course on edX.  Learners who successfully complete an IBM course on edX can now earn a skill badge – a portable, verifiable, digital credential that makes it easier to feature their skills and expertise essential to employers.

The talent shortage is growing. An IBM study of global C-Suite executives revealed that nearly 6 in 10 responding organizations had accelerated their digital transformation initiatives. Essential skills in AI, hybrid cloud, and cybersecurity are in high demand to keep up in the rapidly-changing digital economy. Employers will need new ways to identify – and retain – the talent needed to deliver digital initiatives. At the same time, more individuals are exploring – or responding to – career changes. A recent study from the IBM Institute for Business Value revealed that one in four consumers surveyed globally plan to switch employers in 2021.

Both organizations and individuals can use digital credentials like the IBM skill badges on edX to meet their goals. Employers can use skill badges to connect aspiring professionals to emerging tech job opportunities. And learners can use their digital records to show what they know to advance their careers.

More than 60 IBM skill badges are now available through edX for verified learners who pass applicable IBM courses on edX.

New learning paths

Today’s announcement is another example of IBM and edX working together to prepare learners for high-growth tech job opportunities.

The edX and IBM badge pilot, launched mid-April 2021, introduced five badges. Learners engaged immediately in the IBM skill badges on edX pilot as evident in the courses completed and 8,700 badges earned.

In addition to the badge pilot rollout, edX and IBM have developed 23 new courses and programs for individual learners during 2021 including:
