First Set – 7-5 Muguruza in 51 minutes

Muguruza did not lose serve, saving 3 break points including 2 that were set points at 4-5.  She hit 76% of her first serves in play and won 75% of those points.  Williams dropped serve after failing to convert either of her 2 set points and Muguruza serve out the set.  Williams donated 4 double faults and won just 46% of her 2nd serve points.  For the set Williams had 12 winners and 15 unforced errors – Muguruza had 9 winners and 10 unforced errors.

Second Set – 6-0 Muguruza in 26 minutes

Muguruza did not face a break point in the set as she lost 6 service points.  Muguruza made just 1 unforced error in the set – Williams made 10 in the set.  Venus won just 6 points on her own serve (6 of 20) as she lost the last 9 games of the match.

Match Summary – Muguruza 7-5, 6-0 in 1 hour 17 minutes.

The match changed when Williams failed to win either of her 2 set points on Muguruza’s serve at 4-5 in the first set.  Muguruza went on to hold serve and did not lose another game, taking the last 9 games of the match.

Williams was not able to break Muguruza’s serve despite having 3 break points in the opening set – the last 2 being set points.  Once the first set went to Muguruza, Williams put up little resistance as she failed to hold serve and made 10 unforced errors in the 2nd set.  For the match, Muguruza hit 14 winners and made 11 unforced errors – Williams hit 17 winners and made 25 unforced errors.  Muguruza won 45 of 76 baseline points (59%) – Williams won just 29 of 73 baseline points (40%).
