Top 5 highlights from Day 1
1. IBM 5 in 5
IBM Research hosted a Science Slam at Think 2018, where they announced IBM’s 5 in 5, the five innovations positioned to change our lives within the next five years:
- Crypto-anchors and blockchain will unite against counterfeiters.
- New security methods based on lattice cryptography will emerge.
- AI-powered robot microscopes may save our oceans.
- AI bias will explode, but only the unbiased AI will survive.
- In 5 years, quantum computing will be mainstream.
As captured by our IBM Newsroom team, quantum computing is one of the hottest topics today.
Within five years, quantum computing will move from a “researcher’s playground” into the mainstream, writes IBM’s Head of Research Arvind Krishna:
“In five years, quantum computing will be used extensively by new categories of professionals and developers to solve problems once considered unsolvable. Quantum will be ubiquitous in university classrooms, and will even be available, to some degree, at the high school level.”
This is a truly exciting time for IBM, our clients, our industries, and the world! Let’s keep learning about these technologies throughout the week at select sessions and Innovation Talks. See what else you can learn about these technologies in all the quantum, security, AI, and blockchain sessions to come.

That’s what the new Think Campus area is all about, and tonight was the first chance for everyone to explore! Those who were there got to meet and connect with their Campus community for the first time while enjoying light refreshments and unexpected entertainment.
Those in the Business and AI Campus got to kick things off with an interactive and immersive blockchain demonstration. Entertainment included comedian Greg Schwem and “America’s Got Talent” mentalist Oz Pearlman at Cloud and Data Tonight! Modern Infrastructure offered a preview of the latest industry solutions, technology, partnerships, and exhibits on hand for its three communities: Emerging Technologies, Data Intelligence and Insights, and Multi-Cloud. And Security and Resiliency Campus attendees enjoyed a live concert from ZZ Ward.
To all those who attended, we hope you had as much fun as we did! To those attendees who couldn’t make it, there are more receptions and chances to grow your network all week long.
