IBM volunteers: Celebrating the heroes of an unprecedented year
2020 was a year like no other in modern history. Despite extraordinary challenges, IBM volunteers—as they have done so many times in the past—eagerly shared their expertise and commitment with communities around the world.
Today I am proud to announce the winners of the 2020 IBM Volunteer Excellence Awards. The awards have been presented annually since 2005 by IBM’s Chairman and CEO to those IBMers who have applied their talent and technology to solve societal challenges through their volunteer service.
Global recognition, local impact
Being essential is in our DNA. These 15 individuals and teams from 25 countries embody IBM values through their dedication, innovation and personal commitment.
Winners come from Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States and Vietnam. They made an impact in areas ranging from education and mentoring to marketing, music and healthcare. And, they applied their expertise in AI and emerging technology to improve the lives of others including young women, people with diverse abilities, students, healthcare workers, nonprofit leaders, disadvantaged youth and job seekers.
Each of the IBM winners will earn a USD $10,000 grant from IBM for their non-profit organization or school partners to expand the reach of their work, for a total of USD $150,000 in award grants.
I encourage you to learn more about their contributions. You may find some inspiration or guidance for your own volunteer ambitions.
This year you can vote too
New this year, IBMers will have an opportunity to select their favorite projects from each of the 15 award winners. The three projects with the most votes will receive the IBM Volunteers’ Choice award and an additional USD $5,000 grant for each of the associated organizations, or an additional USD $15,000 in funds.
IBMers are invited to visit the IBM Volunteering & Giving portal to vote by June 8, 2021.
Congratulations to the 2020 IBM Volunteer Excellence Award winners and their partner organizations. Thank you all for using your talent and time in driving social impact around the world.
