Recognizing Lifetime Achievement: Meet Julian Robichaux

Share this post:

If you’ve attended the IBM Connect conference in recent years, or if you’re part of the IBM Collaboration Solutions user community, you probably know—or know of—Julian Robichaux. He’s a senior software developer at panagenda (an IT management software solutions provider and strategic IBM Business Partner), and he’s been named an IBM Champion every year since 2011. Now, for his cumulative and ongoing service to the community, Julian has been named the 2017 recipient of the IBM Champion Lifetime Achievement award, which recognizes IBM Champions who consistently excel and positively impact the IBM Collaboration Solutions community.

Julian has been a professional programmer in the private sector since the early nineties, and has extensive experience with the IBM Notes/Domino platform. He’s written software and applications for IBM technologies and systems, and has offered tips and tools for IBM Notes and Domino developers since 2002 on his website nsftools.com. He is a frequent speaker at IBM conferences, VIEW conferences, and user group events.

So what drives this high achiever? “I love programming, and I like helping other people become better at it,” Julian says. “Being an IBM Champion has given me a level of visibility that allows me to connect with and help more people. I feel lucky to have been named a Champion multiple times, and I’m very excited each time, thinking about what more I can do to help the community.” He also appreciates the access to IBM experts he gets as a Champion, with the ability to learn about beta programs, provide feedback, and get insight to strategy and plans.

Julian is excited about the way collaboration tools are evolving, particularly the move to cloud and the flexibility it offers; and the power of cognitive capabilities. “Cognitive is very exciting for developers—really fun stuff to play with, teaching a system to think.”

In his free time, Julian spends time with his wife and two teenage children, and plays soccer in a local league. He likes reading books by Neal Stephenson (an acclaimed writer of cyberpunk and sci-fi novels exploring areas like cryptography, science and philosophy). Oh, and he’s a big fan of the Avengers movies—you know, the ones that feature Marvel superheroes like Spider-man and Iron Man, who possess special powers which they use for the public good.

Kind of like being an IBM Champion.

If you’re at IBM Connect, Julian Robichaux will be co-leading the GURUpalooza session (Thursday, 12-12:45pm, Room: 2007-2009; Session ID: 1686A) along with Lifetime IBM Champions Gabriella Davis and Theo Heselmans. And don’t miss the closing general session, where Julian will be officially recognized by IBM for his achievement.
