The enchanting quest to move your apps to WebSphere on Cloud

Share this post:

It’s never easy to venture outside of what you know. Lord Ned Stark did not want to venture too far outside the safe walls of Winterfell, Bilbo Baggins wasn’t pleased to forgo the comfort of his hobbit hole, and Harry Potter? Well, actually, he was pretty happy to leave his closet under the stairs.

Although these characters are fictional, we can understand their hesitation in leaving behind what they knew and embarking on a quest into the unknown. In fact, clients are feeling a similar sentiment in regards to leaving their on-premises environment behind for the cloud. Fortunately, IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 9 is here to accompany you on your quest. Consider IBM WebSphere V9 the Gandlaf to your Bilbo Baggins, the Dumbledore to your Harry Potter, or… er, Ned Stark didn’t exactly have many mentors (or allies for that matter.)

Access the cloud without leaving on-premises apps behind

It can be scary and overwhelming to leave what you know behind, which is why IBM WebSphere V9 includes WebSphere Connect capabilities which can give you fast and easy ways to utilize the cloud and your existing on-premises applications. That’s correct: You don’t actually have to move your apps to the cloud, because WebSphere V9 brings the cloud to you. Don’t want to move your apps to the cloud, but still want to extend their value? Easily create and expose your existing Java apps as APIs and connect to the cloud with new tooling support for Swagger validation. Now you can seamlessly connect your on-premises apps to cloud services like IBM Watson, IBM Cloudant and IBM dashDB to help lower costs and speed development time while extending the value of your existing on-premises Java apps.

Go anywhere

When making the move to cloud, there are many paths to choose from—be it a public, private or hybrid cloud environment. With IBM WebSphere V9 you don’t need to be forced down one path. WebSphere V9 is designed for a multi-cloud environment with easy application portability so you can decide what’s best for your business regardless of your current architectural environment. Now you can go anywhere your quest takes you, be it Kings’ Landing, the Misty Mountains or Azkaban. Seamlessly move apps with any cloud container service like IBM Bluemix, Docker (which includes new WebSphere support for Docker Datacenter) or VMware. If those options don’t help your quest to cloud, you can choose from a selection of preconfigured environments and move your apps to the IBM public cloud in minutes and take advantage of flexible “pay-as-you-go” pricing models. The right path is open for you to choose, and WebSphere V9 will be there to guide you every step of the way.

Embark on your quest to cloud
