Using cloud, UmbraGroup protects data from earthquakes

UmbraGroupAviation clients including Boeing, U.S. Airways, Lufthansa, Airbus and Lockheed-Martin rely on Italian company UmbraGroup to supply mechanical components to keep their airplanes in top working order. UmbraGroup relies on IBM Cloud to make sure that its data stays safe so that all those aviation clients can keep their aircraft flying.

UmbraGroup’s main datacenter is in Foligno, Italy, a few miles away from the epicenter of a major earthquake that occurred in 1997. Earthquakes are common in the region, and the company has been looking to ensure that a disaster doesn’t interrupt its supply-chain operations.

Forbes explains how IBM Cloud services helped:

Partnering with IBM met all of UmbraGroup’s requirements: high availability of systems, no data loss, resumption in a matter of hours—not days or weeks—and a geo-redundant disaster recovery environment.

IBM was able to take UmbraGroup’s requirements and find the right balance among performance, service levels and cost. An added bonus: UmbraGroup can continue to maintain a very lean IT environment, relative to the size of the group, the geographic spread of its business and the high expectations of the group’s global clients.
