“Mobile phone users can very easily capture pictures of problems to address in Mexican cities, from water leaks to potholes in the street,” says Mi Agencia director Daniel Molina. “We wanted to create a platform allowing municipalities to receive this input, initiate repair projects and track them to completion.”

Cloud technology offered the flexibility and scalability Mi Agencia needed for its solution. “This is a platform with virtually unlimited applications,” Molina says. “We have to be able to extend it to all different kinds of organizations throughout Mexico.”

Launching its offering in a high-performance SoftLayer cloud environment, Mi Agencia initiated its first project: an urban repair initiative in the city of Monterrey. “Users photographed over 5,000 issues for the city government to tackle,” Molina says. “With geolocalization, municipal workers know the exact location each picture is taken in.”

The new platform took off quickly, and Mi Agencia currently supports more than 100 projects with its solution, including an election monitoring initiative.

In conjunction with several nonpartisan civil associations, Tecnología de Ami Sociedad used Mi Agencia’s cloud-based platform to create Monitoreo Elecciones 2015, an application designed to encourage citizen involvement in and surveillance of the election process.

Citizens simply download the Android application and use their mobile devices to capture and upload pictures from key election locations, including voting polls. Containing a folio number, user name, time and date, each image adds to the compendium of data gathered on election proceedings. If a problem arises at a polling location, election officials have invaluable digital information to use in the ensuing investigation.

A project like Monitoreo Elecciones 2015 is exactly the type of initiative Mi Agencia hopes to inspire. “Ultimately, our mission is about bringing government to the people,” Molina says.

However, the Mi Agencia platform also has valuable applications for business users, including advertising and marketing organizations. “We can help agencies determine the optimal locations for outdoor advertising and monitor their campaigns,” Molina says.

Molina also anticipates collaboration with legal entities to document and improve conditions in hospitals and schools. “Hosting in a SoftLayer environment allows us to effortlessly scale our solution as demand continues,” he says. “We have the flexibility we need to easily team with organizations and quickly launch their projects.”
