tech.london logoAs you may be aware, London is the digital capital of Europe, and it continues to see explosive growth in innovation and technology. In the first quarter of 2015 alone, investors pumped a record-breaking £459 million in venture capitalist funds into London’s digital sector.

Today, the Mayor of London and Gust (in partnership with IBM) announced the launch of Tech.London, a digital hub connecting, supporting and growing London’s expanding technology community.

The site, built on IBM’s Bluemix platform as a service, offers entrepreneurs the building blocks they need to be successful. It includes information on funding, access to top talent, marketing savvy, a network of like-minded entrepreneurs, and access to local services.

The model closely resembles the Digital.NYC, which launched in October 2014. New York Mayor de Blasio described that site at the time as “a groundbreaking resource that will seamlessly connect members of the city’s tech hub to training, jobs, and funding and make our city’s digital economy accessible to all New Yorkers.”

In just over 6 months, the New York initiative has attracted 6,000 startups who have posting over 3,000 job opportunities.

The Tech.London launch comes at the start of London Technology Week, which celebrates London’s global position as a hotbed of tech innovation, business successes, entrepreneurship and creative talent.

For IBM, this represents just part of its participation in the burgeoning London innovation community The company recently held a 2-day Wimbledon Hackathon, and it plans a major presence at Cloud World Forum. IBMers are also working with Imperial College on a Space App Challenge, similar to an earlier venture with NASA.
