Today, in front of more than 15,000 attendees at IBM’s InterConnect 2015 conference in Las Vegas, IBM announced the OpenStack borderless cloud beta surfaced through IBM Bluemix. With the new beta service, developers can deploy applications to OpenStack cloud infrastructure from within Bluemix. This borderless OpenStack cloud can provide compute, storage, and network resources through public, dedicated and local cloud infrastructure, all available to developers directly within Bluemix.

Check out this short video that demonstrates the new Bluemix OpenStack capability:

Developers want to focus on what they do best: creating and coding new applications.   That shouldn’t have to change just because they need to deploy an application to a different cloud environment. With the new OpenStack borderless cloud beta in Bluemix, developers can easily deploy applications in a consistent manner across public, dedicated and local OpenStack based clouds, realizing the promise of hybrid cloud. With Bluemix providing the ability to deploy applications across cloud deployment models, developers can create your infrastructure configuration one time and deploy consistently regardless of the stage of your development life cycle.

A key component for delivering reliable infrastructure for application development and delivery is trust, earned by providing application availability, secure access and safeguarding application data.

The OpenStack public and dedicated cloud services available in Bluemix are hosted on SoftLayer infrastructure, which provides reliable, secure, and high-performance infrastructure for OpenStack trusted clouds. Building on that trust, SoftLayer plans to deploy Trusted Platform Modules (TPM) with Intel’s Trusted eXecution Technology and when combined with IBM’s Cloud Security Services, you can be assured of software integrity. Additionally, in the future, developers will be able to ensure geographic boundaries for the deployment of their application via geographic tagging of systems with TPM.

The Bluemix cloud services beta is open now for you to test out deploying and running applications on IBM’s OpenStack cloud.  Sign up for a Bluemix 30 day free trial, or if you are already a Bluemix user, go here!
