In this blog post, I’ll share with you the following enhancements to this new version:
Image Construction and Composition Tool (ICCT)
License tracking tool
Lifeboat instance for Workload Service
Enhancement on database backup capabilities
Zend PHP pattern
Messaging extension for the web application pattern
IBM Worklight trial pattern
We can place these new enhancements into three categories: management, recovery and patterns.
Image Construction and Composition Tool (ICCT): From now on, the ICCT is also available for SCAS. That means if your image is based on ICCT technology you can easily migrate this image from one environment to SCAS to create your virtual system pattern. You can download the tool from the IBM SmartCloud Application Workload Service console.
License tracking tool: This tool will help you to track the number of licenses (bring your own license) you are currently using in your Workload Service environment and let you know if you are above the limit you set.
Lifeboat instance for Workload Service: This functionality was already available on the IBM SmartCloud Collaborative Lifecycle Management service and now is also available on the Workload Service. So, if for any reason your Workload Service is deleted, the lifeboat instance will take over and thus drastically reduce the limit of the “recovery time objectives.”
Enhancements on database backup capabilities: Before R1.1, you could only create offline daily backups. Now you will be able to make multiple online backups of your database by using a schedule or on demand. You will also be able to snapshot or clone your database. These enhancements will improve the “recovery time objective” and the “recovery point objective.”
Zend PHP pattern: IBM and Zend have collaborated to create a PHP pattern bringing the Zend know-how on PHP into SCAS. This new pattern will provide resiliency and scalability for your PHP application environment. Check out this video on Zend Server:
Messaging extension: Now an extra component will be available in the web app pattern type, allowing you to create (based on IBM WebSphere MQ 7.1) a messaging infrastructure in the cloud. One of the benefits of this is better performance, as the message will no longer need to travel back and forth from the cloud.
I had the opportunity to visit a number of telecommunications clients using IBM Netcool over the last year. We frequently discussed the benefits of have a geographically mapped view of topology. Not just because it was nice “eye candy” in the Network Operations Center (NOC), but because it gives an important geographically-based view of network […]
