In the wake of every cloud outage, a conversation buds about the reliability of clouds. Particularly when a cloud outage affects consumers’ ability to access services such as video on demand, social media sites or sensitive data like a bank account, cloud computing goes under extreme scrutiny.
For this month’s #cloudchat on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 4 to 5 p.m. ET, we’ll be talking about the level of resiliency that’s right for business on the cloud, and how this might change as customers’ expectations rise.
We’re thrilled for this chat to have our first-ever guest moderator, Chris Preimesberger of eWeek, joining us. Chris will be asking the questions and interacting with the panelists and audience this month—it’s going to be a chat you won’t want to miss.

Chris Preimesberger, Editor, Features & Analysis, eWeek
Chris Preimesberger was named Editor of Features & Analysis at eWEEK in November 2011. Previously he served eWEEK as Senior Writer, covering a range of IT sectors that include data center systems, cloud computing, storage, virtualization, green IT, e-discovery and IT governance. His blog, Storage Station, is considered a go-to information source. In previous IT journalism, Chris was a founding editor of both IT Manager’s Journal and DevX.com and was managing editor of Software Development magazine. His diverse resume also includes: sportswriter for the Los Angeles Daily News, covering NCAA and NBA basketball; television critic for the Palo Alto Times Tribune; and Sports Information Director at Stanford University. He has served as a correspondent for The Associated Press, covering Stanford and NCAA tournament basketball, since 1983. Chris has won more than a dozen regional and national awards for his work.
Audrey Rasmussen, Partner and Principal Analyst, Ptak/Noel and Associates
Audrey Rasmussen leverages her experience of more than 30 years in the information technology industry, to help her clients as they navigate through the accelerating changes in the information technology industry. Over the years, she had developed experiences in various contexts (expertise in systems and application management, working with very small companies to very large corporations, industry specializations, business focus, and technical focus), which combine into unique insights into the information technology industry.
Previously, Audrey served as vice president at Enterprise Management Associates, where she focused on systems and application management. She was also a systems engineer at IBM, where she supported customers with small-to-medium sized distributed systems, as well as industry specialties.
Richard Cocchiara, Chief Technology Officer for Business Resiliency & Consulting Services, IBM
Rich is the CTO for Business Resiliency and Consulting Services at IBM, where he is responsible for designing and developing new services in the BCRS area. Rich created the Business Resilience framework in IBM, and has been with the company for nearly 30 years.

As always, here’s the full rundown of how the #cloudchat works:
- What: A tweetchat is an online conversation held at a pre-arranged time following a specific hashtag, in this case #cloudchat. You will need a Twitter ID to take part.
- When: Thursday, August 9, at 4 p.m. ET, repeating the 2nd Thursday of every month at 4 p.m. ET.
- Where: The chat can be followed on Twitter using the hashtag #cloudchat. Alternatively, log on and access the chat on twebevent. A recap will be posted on this blog the following Friday.
