Building End-to-End IoT Data Pipelines in the IBM Cloud using the Message Hub Object Storage Bridge

With the advent of sensors in all walks of life, the Internet of Things is on a path to generate the Biggest Big Data our planet has known. How can we successfully harness this ocean of data? We need end-to-end IoT data pipelines that collect, store, and analyze the data. In this blog, we introduce the Message Hub Object Storage bridge and show how it can enable just such an end-to-end IoT data pipeline on IBM Bluemix.

Our datacenter, your cloud – Message Hub on Bluemix Dedicated

If you like the idea of Message Hub, but need more performance or isolation, you should be thinking about a dedicated instance of Message Hub. This is a single-tenant Bluemix environment hosted in a separate SoftLayer account managed by IBM. It’s like having your own cloud provisioned in an IBM datacenter. Many of the Bluemix services, including Message Hub, are available in Bluemix Dedicated.

Creating a microservices application in Bluemix using MQ Light messaging

In today’s cloud environment it is desirable to implement a microservices architecture for many scenarios. Moving away from monolithic applications to a coalition of smaller collaborating applications requires a way for these small discrete microservices to communicate with each other. This is where messaging can help. By decomposing your application, actually breaking it down to components, it keeps the services modular and scalable so that they are easier to debug.

IBM Message Hub goes live in Bluemix

I’m very pleased to tell you about the release of the new IBM Message Hub service in IBM Bluemix. After a couple of months as a beta service, it’s now progressed to a fully fledged, generally available service. Message Hub brings the power and scale of Apache Kafka to the IBM Bluemix cloud. As far as we know, this is the first multi-tenant, cloud-hosted service based on Kafka. It makes it very quick and easy to experiment with Kafka and Bluemix, whether you’re writing an application using a runtime environment such as Node.js, a Docker container or a virtual machine, or integrating with other Bluemix services.
