Citi Mobile Challenge Asia Pacific has entered the next level. In next few days the APIs will be made accessible to the selected participants. I have coded a simple Node.js application that illustrates how to consume these Citi APIs made available for the Citi Mobile Challenge and run them on IBM Bluemix. The APIs are REST based so all the calls will follow a similar pattern. This tutorial will walk you through the steps to setup your environment, load the sample code, and deploy it to Bluemix.
Part of the VoteSavvy initiative is to provide a survey for young voters, designed to reveal useful voting information like candidates, location and party stance on an individual’s interests. The survey runs on Bluemix. As an advocate and organizer of hackathons for social good, I’m thrilled that this survey was born in an Ottawa hackathon called Random Hacks of Kindness.
You’ve never had a better reason to sign up and learn Bluemix! Devpost, the home for hackers, has just launched a new challenge: Bluemixathon - Operation Rescue and Recovery. You can use your coding skills to solve humanitarian issues by creating Bluemix apps to ease the logistics crises that arise during natural or man-made disasters.
The Watson Developer Cloud has unleashed the potential for developers around the world to tap into the cognitive power that Watson provides. We have seen apps leveraging Watson’s personality extraction capabilities for enhancing social engagement to apps combining speech detection to deliver interactive experiences. Out of all these applications, some of the most unique and innovative use cases have come out of hackathons, where the creative juices are always flowing. I want to highlight some of the great MVPs that have come out of only a few days of hacking with Bluemix and Watson.
Did you know that women in STEM jobs earned 33% more than comparable women in non-STEM jobs? Or that women represent 48% of the workforce but hold 24% of jobs in the STEM field? Women In Technology International (WITI) and IBM are both committed to helping women become a greater part of the success and growth of our industry. With that, IBM and WITI are partnering together for the first ever WITI Virtual Hackathon!
This post describes details on the Bluemix and FIU Hackthon and provides pointers to the amazing work the students have accomplished and the lessons we learned from it. Unlike typical Hackathons that usually takes place in a day or two, we extended this one for a few weeks so students really get the time to experiment on the cloud platform, learn the technologies available to them and build interesting applications. The projects ranged from interesting job search applications to home automation to analyzing mood of people in Miami. Check out the projects including video overviews!
The Watson team is hosting the first ever World of Watson event from May 4-6th. Two hundred hackathon participants will join a host of IBMers, IBM partners, and entrepreneurs for a spectacular three days of keynotes, sessions, and the first ever Watson hackathon.
The NASA Space Apps Challenge is coming up this weekend! This is the largest hackathon in the world attracting over 10k participants who will gather in one of 130+ locations, or participate virtually. We're offering the Bluemix platform for development of apps, bringing the open source architecture of Cloud Foundry and the flexibility to integrate development frameworks, languages and services that suit your needs.
Back in September at the CTIA Supermobility conference, Ford Motor Company hosted a Connected Vehicle Hackathon at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. This was the first ever Ford sponsored event designed explicitly to drive awareness and community around their Connected Vehicle Infotainment strategy, SYNC AppLink. Ford teamed up with the city of Los Angeles to make data available for developers to use in their applications. Over 170 people attended the event from 15 different countries. At the end of the week, each team had seven minutes to present and demo their application concept and ten semi-finalists were named.
