Upgrading the infrastructure of the IBM Watson Discovery service

Starting April 9, 2019, we will be upgrading the infrastructure of the IBM Watson Discovery service to improve reliability and quality of results. During this upgrade, Discovery environments will be placed into read-only mode. All queries will continue to function as expected. Creation, deletion, and update of documents, collections, configurations, and training data will be prevented temporarily. Training times may be temporarily increased during and after the upgrade window.

Timing of upgrade

The timing of the upgrade will depend on region, plan, and size of your instance:

Sydney: April 9, 9 AM to 1PM EDT
Tokyo: April 9, 10 AM to 2 PM EDT
Frankfurt: April 10, 2 PM to 6 PM EDT,  environment_ids beginning 8 through f inclusive
London: April 10, 3 PM to  7 PM EDT
Frankfurt: April 11, 2 PM to  6 PM EDT, environment_ids beginning 0 through 7 inclusive
Washington DC: April 11, 7 PM to 11 PM EDT
Dallas: April 12, 7 PM to 11 PM EDT, environment_ids beginning 8 through f inclusive
Dallas: April 13, 7 PM to 11 PM EDT, environment_ids beginning 0 through 7 inclusive

This upgrade also includes changes to the scoring algorithms used in Watson Discovery for ranking documents and passages. This means result score and confidence may change following the upgrade. If your applications make use of the score or confidence fields directly, please note the change windows when your upgrade will occur and be prepared to update the application as necessary.

If you encounter any issues after the timeframe specified, please create a case through IBM Cloud support.
