New Pricing and Incentives for Compose on Bluemix

It’s here! The price drop for Compose databases on Bluemix has arrived bringing new entry level prices and incentives for volume use. The change was announced earlier in the quarter, but if you missed that, you’ll want to know how it is going to save you money.

Be aware that this new pricing is only available for Compose databases and Compose Enterprise databases on Bluemix.

Start Lower

We’ve cut the price of entry so the initial cost of a Compose database is now in line with the cost of additional resources. So for Compose for MongoDB, it was $31 a month for the first gigabyte and $18 for subsequent gigabytes. Now, that first gigabyte is $18 too. It’s the same for all the Compose databases.

And if you are thinking of using the super-fast Scylla database, we’ve dropped the minimum configuration for that from 10GB down to 5GB. This, along with the other changes, mean that the price of entry for Scylla has dropped from $193.50 to $90.

Grow More for Less

We know your data needs will expand, so we’ve introduced a new tiered incentive scheme. 1GB of storage or 256MB of RAM equates to a unit of scale on Compose. Many Compose databases scale on storage, while Redis, etcd and RabbitMQ scale on RAM. Whichever is appropriate for your selected database, if your storage use grows to 10-24 units (10GB-24GB of storage or 2.5GB-6GB of RAM), you get to move to the 10% price reduction tier on your storage costs and that keeps going all the way up to 5000 units or more and a 70% price reduction tier.
