IBM Cloud Product Insights: Open for Business

Share this post:

IBM® Cloud Product Insights is now available as a GA service through IBM® Bluemix®.

Product Insights extends new cloud capability to IBM software products so that IT administrators or capacity planners can view, track, and report usage metrics in a single dashboard. Through this dashboard it is possible to track products across the enterprise, get usage reports to help optimize environments, and integrate to other hybrid cloud services or Cloud patterns.

Before Product Insights, organizations struggled to answer basic questions about the products they own and use to manage their business. If system administrators were asked about software inventory, they either struggled to answer basic deployment questions, or they went through difficult tasks to manage and count their usage from individual administrative consoles or server instance reports to get the answers. If they needed to identify versions for upgrade, or which servers needed to be optimized for better efficiency, then this added a whole other layer of complexity to an already difficult task.

For the first time, Product Insights now provides capabilities where IBM products can be inventoried and tracked (based on their usage) – all within one dashboard. Without changing an organization’s infrastructure or topology, after a few easy registration steps, product instances call Product Insights to provide basic usage metrics. These metrics then show up on the dashboard as simple usage graphs that can be viewed for actionable business decisions. For example, decisions include which product instances need to be upgraded to the latest version (security patch), which instances are overused, or conversely which ones are underused, sitting idle, and wasting money.

With Product Insights, IT administrators or capacity planners can access:

  • Registration and Inventory – Register and track software product instances and usage all-in-one inventory dashboard. Instances are organized by group or allow individual selection and exploration. You can query by platform, version, or other metrics to aid further analysis.
  • Usage Analysis – View various product usage metrics graphically (displayed over time) to help analyze environments. Using these metrics, administrators can discover over/under-used instances to help improve ROI.
  • Advisor – Product Insights can recommend other Bluemix cloud services that can be connected to IBM products. IT administrators can select a specific product and get advice on what other cloud opportunities exist for their current environments to improve value and ROI.

You can use Product Insights immediately with the latest middleware software product interim fix, at no additional cost to your organization. Product Insights supports IBM WebSphere® Application Server, IBM WebSphere Liberty, IBM MQ, IBM Integration Bus, IBM Operational Decision Manager (ODM) and IBM ODM on Cloud. For information on supported versions, see the Enabled products table.

Where to find IBM Cloud Product Insights

You can find Product Insights in IBM Marketplace, or in the Integrate section of the Bluemix catalog. You can learn more about the service at Getting Started with Product Insights or visit the Product Insights Technical Community for additional resources.
