IBM Cloud architectures are now on the IBM Bluemix Garage Method site

IBM’s Cloud architectures provide the best practices for building applications on the cloud. You can now access all of the architecture information directly from the Architectures section of the IBM® Bluemix® Garage Method site.

Each reference architecture defines a basic pattern, while implementations provide specific technology, practices, and tool choices to build and deploy that pattern.

These reference architectures are available on the Bluemix Garage Method site:

  • Cognitive
  • Internet of Things
  • Service management
  • Data and analytics
  • Microservices for web and mobile
  • Social
  • DevOps for cloud-native
  • Mobile
  • Virtualization
  • e-Commerce
  • Security
  • Web application
  • Hybrid

Navigating architectures and implementations

The first section of each reference architecture includes an explanation of the business challenges that the architecture addresses. For example, the Cognitive architecture provides assisted decision-making that drives better and effective customer service, streamlined operations, and learning in every product.

An interactive high-level diagram defines the architecture components, explains how they interact, and shows a list of the tools to use for each component. Hover over the components in the diagram to learn more.

The Implementation section of the architecture page includes one or more examples of specific implementations of the reference architecture. For example, the “Cognitive car information” implementation of the Cognitive architecture explains how to set up a solution where car owners can have conversations about their cars with the bots that are inside the cars’ dashboards. Each implementation also includes an interactive diagram that you can use to explore components and related tools.

In a few architectures, you can view sample code in GitHub by clicking Get the code near the top of the implementation page.

Several architectures also include tutorials for further exploration. You can find the tutorials in the Learning section of an implementation page. For an example, see the “Workplace and public safety” implementation of the Social architecture.

Explore the architectures today, and check back often to see what’s new!
