In the world of tech startups, we often talk about how to pivot quickly and transform an industry. #GivingTuesday – an international movement celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving – shifted the holiday season from a conversation about getting gifts to one about giving. While most of the social #GivingTuesday chatter will be about making donations (last year, 700k people donated $116M online in one day), keep in mind that you can also give time and expertise to a community or organization in need. If you’re building on Bluemix, you’re perfectly positioned to share expertise.
Here are a few ways you could you use your coding and data analytics skills – along with a few Bluemix services – to help a nonprofit:
- Connect volunteers to each other with real-time hangout detection:
- Help people find social services faster with blazingly fast geospatial queries with IBM Redis by Compose:
- Build better context for location-based applications – and help social service organizations (like Meals on Wheels) deliver food and services to those in need. Check out the IoT for Automotive Service.
- Help a nonprofit determine where to expand operations using dashDB: Check out the Blog
- Use Watson Personality Insights and Natural Language Processing to improve program efficiency. Guiding Eyes for the Blind used cognitive cloud solutions to improve the graduation rate for their dogs by 10% and meet the growing demand for guide dogs.
