Republished excerpt from the IoT Foundation Blog “Announcing Dedicated”:

To date Internet of Things Foundation has been available as a Public cloud service. This is great as it’s quick to get started, offers simple sign up, and pay as you go pricing. What happens if you need tighter control over the hardware, or have data sovereignty requirements that mean you need to define exactly which where your data lives?

That’s where Dedicated comes in. With our Dedicated offering, you can have Internet of Things Foundation deployed in any of the 40+ SoftLayer datacenters around the world.

From the announcement letter “IBM Bluemix Dedicated IoT Foundation”:

IBM Bluemix Dedicated Internet of Things (IoT) Foundation is a fully managed, cloud-hosted service that is designed to simplify and derive the most value from your IoT devices. It offers the following features and functions:

  • Device registration
  • Device and application connectivity
  • Ability to securely receive data and send commands to devices

When combined with the IBM Bluemix platform, IoT Foundation enables simple, but powerful application access to IoT devices and data. You can rapidly compose analytics applications, visualization dashboards, mobile IoT apps, and applications that can feed your back-end enterprise applications. Use this source of data to generate new opportunities and gain new insights into the physical world surrounding your business. These insights can then be translated into commands to drive action in the physical world in which your business operates.
