Thank you all who attended our webinar on Navigating the API Economy with IBM Bluemix. Matt Roberts took us through the big picture concepts of creating an API value chain and then dove into a live demo for making this real. The importance of API economy cannot be overstated in this cloud enabled application world.
Businesses are transforming the way they deliver their business processes internally and to partner ecosystems by surfacing these processes as consumable APIs. This drives new value for applications assembled from the parts and also new value from existing assets that were previously buried behind the firewall. This is a win-win for enterprises and users as we see new applications surface that are more engaging, deliver better experiences, and have more powerful business processes integrated into them. I encourage you to listen to the replay to hear examples and details.
We had a number of audience questions come through and I wanted to answer those as categories below:
- Can you give me the elevator pitch on API Economy?
The idea is comes from the shift in monolithic application development to cloud based applications. The latter applications are assembled through business services (e.g. Watson, PayPal, Analytics) available to developers as APIs. The need for applications to be rapidly built, scale infinitely, and be available across a host of devices is made much more easy by also looking inside the enterprise for business processes that can be surfaced in the same readily consumable manner.
- How does Bluemix fit into this picture?
Bluemix is IBM’s digital innovation platform that provides developers APIs from IBM and 3rd party. It also provides the infrastructure, tooling, and monitoring to build, deploy, manage, and run applications. We have built a feature into the platform that allows developers to surface a private catalog of APIs. This allows developers to build their own services (aka APIs) and manage access to them.
- What about versioning them?
We support the ability to version as part of the private API management lifecycle.
Thank you again for joining us on a deep dive into the API Economy. Don’t make your ideas wait! Start building today on IBM Bluemix.
