General Availability – IBM Insights for Twitter Service on Bluemix

Share this post:

On March 26, 2015 ET, we are releasing the Insights for Twitter General Availability (GA) Service. This update will replace the Beta version you have been using. As a result, any applications that were created with the current Insights for Twitter Beta will no longer work. You must update/rework your applications per the directions below to use the new release.

Should you have questions regarding the changeover from Beta to GA, please post them in the Bluemix forum.

Things that are changing in this update:

  • Existing service instances created with the Beta version of Insights for Twitter are being removed.
  • New service instances using the GA Free Plan and will be able to get 5M tweets for free. Any Tweets retrieved under Beta will not count towards free allocation under the Free Plan. In other words, you will have 5M free tweets whether or not you have used any in the Beta plan.
  • URLs for the Insights for Twitter service have not changed, but you will have to bind to the new instance of the service, which will result in creation of a new user ID and password.
  • New IBM enrichments have been added; Changes to the resulting JSON object will reflect those enhancements. Please refer to Insights for Twitter documentation for more information.
  • Query language has been expanded to support additional terms.

Changes required to user applications to work with this new release:

  • Any existing Insights for Twitter service instances are deleted automatically.
  • Create new Insights for Twitter service instance choosing the appropriate plan.
  • Bind the application to the new service instance(s).
  • Insights for Twitter API didn’t change and all the existing code will continue to work, but you’ll need to use new user ID and password available in VCAP_SERVICE environment variable of the new service instance.
  • Restage your application.

Thank you for using the Insights for Twitter Beta Service!
