Megatrend – a small company with global scale
Croatian business partner, Megatrend, turns thirty this year. Darko Tukulj, Head of Sales, discusses the partner’s relationship with IBM and how together we are nurturing the next generation of business partner.
Megatrend was established in 1989 as an IT distributor to the Croatian market. We first entered into partnership with IBM six years later, and few years later started with distribution of IBM technology, in addition with AS400, RS6000 and IBM’s Point of Sale systems. As technology evolved, so did our business strategy. We started to work with Cognos in 2001 and IBM’s acquisition of Cognos led us to significantly expand our capabilities in business intelligence. In 2004, we set up a new company Megatrend poslovna rješenja from the Megatrend company. In 2012, we moved out of the distribution market, to focus exclusively on consulting, selling and implementing IBM Power and software solutions.
Despite being small company on a global scale, Megatrend is one of only few IBM Platinum partners in Croatia, able to cover a wide range of customer needs thanks to the close relationship we maintain with IBM. It is common practice for us to jointly plan our approach to potential opportunities and to work together on events and co-marketing activities to develop our mutual business.
The key to Megatrend’s success with IBM is close collaboration. The Croatian IT market, being rather small, is very much a community and is populated by teams who have studied or worked together in the past. When addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by technology, that community spirit is a great asset. Croatian technologists are – quite simply – collaborative by nature and that translates well into business partnerships like the one we have with IBM.
Megatrend’s business is centred around two main areas – which are interdependent to a large degree – those of technology infrastructure and business solutions. In 2005, we established the first data centre in Croatia, and IBM technology has always been the backbone of that centre, especially IBM Power and high performance storage systems. In addition to hosting client’s infrastructure and data, we help our clients build their own data centres and with the transformation of their IT infrastructure.
On the business solutions side, we work with IBM to educate and advise clients on why IBM has the right technology for their needs, particularly in business analytics, planning, budgeting, data maintenance and – increasingly today – in data science and artificial intelligence.
A key area of collaboration at present is around our Dashboard2Go suite, which combines the sophisticated capabilities of Cognos with the flexibility of mobile delivery, enabling clients to get fast, effective access to data insights no matter where they are. It’s about unlocking the power of insight on whatever device the client needs it, where they need it.
With Dashboard2Go, clients can access pre-defined active reports which interpret the drivers of their business at a highly granular level, alongside historical data, with the ability to create custom reports on the go. Data is every enterprise’s most valuable asset. Megatrend and IBM aim to make that data – and the insights derived from it – available in a fast, intuitive way.
