Risk Management and Insurance Concept

Everyday, insurance companies are required to review, manage and assess information to enable them to make swift and accurate decisions on behalf of their customers. To do this, they need tremendous amounts of data in a short amount of time and often rely on technology partners to help them automate, secure and update their business processes and applications.

Larsen & Toubro Infotech (LTI), a global technology consulting and digital solutions company and Platinum IBM Business Partner with Build and Service Competencies, has expanded their multi-year, global alliance with IBM. Their goal is to help businesses transform their operations through open hybrid cloud adoption. This expanded relationship will help support the migration and modernization of ecosystem partner products, services and other offerings to hybrid cloud environments.

By using the IBM Garage Methodology, the IBM Hybrid Cloud Build Team helped LTI restructure its technology portfolio with IBM Cloud Paks designed for today’s insurance industry. They were able to develop innovative “Risk Insights” services such as Social Scoring that uses social reviews of businesses to help create a more accurate understanding of the risks associated with insuring those companies. The application includes rules-based classifications for the business location and aggregation of risk data from variety of sources: local crime statistics, weather events, peril and other underwriting data sources. IBM works with LTI employees to facilitate co-creation workshops and solution development for their clients.

As a result of this collaboration, LTI plans to introduce a new, unique dimension to the underwriting process that infuses AI to help evaluate insurance applications. This novel platform marries standard insurance industry data with Watson AI and data from the IBM Weather Company. This type of data offers clients embedded visualization charts and statistical modeling designed to help improve risk assessment and make better underwriting decisions.
