Enterprise resilience: when business as usual becomes business unusual

Within the last few months, organizations have greatly focused on resiliency as they’ve been forced to review current operations. Unfortunately, for many this may be a little late in the recovery and response game as virtually every industry has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses are currently grappling with how to protect their employees, clients and suppliers while enabling delivery of key services and products.

When disruptions occur, enterprises need current and accurate data about people, processes, locations, applications, hardware, suppliers and the relationships between them. The complete picture is a spiderweb of interdependencies that is challenging to see and where a single disruption can cause unforeseen ripple effects across multiple areas.

And to help businesses overcome these disruptions, Continuity Logic (CL) has spent over 14 years providing holistic enterprise platforms for integrated risk management (IRM), security, incident management and continuity.

We provide a platform that can relay important data to key decision-makers in real-time. Who is impacted? What is the impact? How long can or should this last? What is the cost?

With this information, organizations increase their likelihood of making better decisions. More importantly, this data can be updated frequently to provide insights for leadership during business as usual.

Effective, efficient cloud selection

To handle the velocity of change with data, users, organizational and regulatory changes, Continuity Logic required a cloud provider that was flexible, effective and efficient. We chose IBM® Cloud® to deliver the scale and security our customers require as it provides one the largest global footprints of data center operations, allowing users to choose the best location to meet their regulatory requirements.

And since Continuity Logic clients are public, private and federal, we also utilize IBM Cloud for Government. This commercial, self-service cloud environment for federal government and public sector clients and organizations directly serves those agencies and entities. IBM Cloud for Government is also Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) Impact Level High compliant.

Protecting client infrastructures

In 2016, after we had begun working with IBM Cloud, IBM Resiliency Services began the search to replace the legacy tool used by IBM client execs to create resiliency plans for their domestic and international clients. IBM Resiliency Services works with clients to help them test key technologies and infrastructure and remediate issues — all while mitigating risks.

In particular, these execs were looking for a solution that included hosting on a secure and reliable cloud infrastructure, scalability and flexibility, self-service management, and the ability to expand into areas outside of IT disaster recovery and business continuity. With the IBM portfolio expanding into data management, data governance and analysis, and the AI journey, the due diligence process left only a single provider: Continuity Logic hosted on IBM Cloud.

This blended IBM and Continuity Logic solution for hosting, services, consulting and software has helped provide hundreds of organizations with a stronger approach to resiliency during their COVID-19 response. Disruptions to critical pieces of infrastructure (e.g., data centers) or technology (e.g., applications) may have unpredictable ripple effects, especially due to potential shortages in the workforce or limited access to locations, causing lasting damage.

When “business as usual” becomes “business unusual,” the IBM and Continuity Logic joint offering can help securely connects the dots, placing data for decision-making at your fingertips nearly anywhere, at any time.

Beyond this initial solution, in 2020 we are exploring real-world use cases that will utilize IBM Watson tools for predictive analysis of supply chain disruptions and risk scenarios so that executives are empowered to make even faster strategic decisions.
