Creating Cordova applications with Bluemix

You can now can create Cordova applications that use a mobile backend on Bluemix for security, push notifications, and monitoring. Not familiar with Cordova? Apache Cordova is an open-source framework for creating mobile applications with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You do not need to know about native application programming for iOS or Android to create a Cordova application. Cordova generates the native apps with command-line tools.

Last month we officially announced first generation services as discontinued in favor of the new services. The first generation services, as well as the Mobile Cloud Boilerplate, will be removed from Bluemix Catalog. Your existing instances of these services will continue to be fully operational, even after the services are removed from the catalog, for the next 12 months.

MobileFirst Services on Bluemix now support Android and have an Open Source SDK

IBM Bluemix started, the opportunity for mobile developers was an obvious one. It takes only a quick look at your phone to see that almost every app uses a core set of capabilities - Authentication, Push Notifications, Data and Analytics. Consider how many apps there are, and that they are all using this functionality. Should every developer be standing up a server and rewriting this rudimentary software? No, they should be using a service or services. Heck, they probably shouldn’t be writing any server side code at all, right? We learned a lot while we were building these services. As a continuation of that journey, today I’m happy to announce that we are adding Android to our second generation of mobile cloud services.
