Announcing the deprecation of the Apache Spark (Lite plan) service
We’d like to inform you about the deprecation of the Apache Spark (Lite plan) service. The Lite plan of this service will be retired on June 28, 2019. Please note that the Enterprise plan has already been deprecated.
IBM Analytics Engine, built on separate integration points and compute and storage architecture a good alternative for the Apache Spark (Lite plan) service. IBM Analytics Engine provides the ability to spin up Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark clusters, integrate with Watson Studio, and work with data in IBM Cloud Object Storage. It also features newer versions of Apache Spark and Apache Hadoop and related ecosystem components. The Apache Spark (Lite) service will be sunset on June 28, 2019.
Here’s what you need to know
Service Retirement Announce Date: March 5, 2019
End of Marketing Date: April 5, 2019
As of April 5, 2019, new Apache Spark (Lite plan) instances cannot be provisioned. However, existing instances will continue to be supported.
End of Support Date: June 28, 2019
For a period of three (3) months after the End of Marketing Date, through June 28, 2019, all existing instances will continue to be available on the Services dashboard in the IBM Cloud console. All existing instances will also continue to be supported for Apache Spark (Lite plan).
- Any instance still provisioned as of the End of Support Date will be deleted.
- Please delete your Apache Spark (Lite plan) service instances before the End of Support Date (i.e., June 28, 2019).
We strongly recommend you to move your applications to IBM Analytics Engine in order to get access to the latest versions of Apache Spark and Apache Hadoop ecosystem components.
