IBM Cloud Transformational Advisor simplifies application modernization
You have teams of Java EE (JEE) developers that run your business. You are also building teams who have fully embraced cloud computing, with native cloud development leveraging a burgeoning portfolio of cloud-based services. Synergy across your organization is the key to speed and innovation when delivering new features to your customers, whether it’s the latest mobile application or smart advisors based on machine-learning technology leveraging your existing data.
IBM Cloud Private provides you a platform to focus on both areas while having a common management layer. As part of IBM’s efforts to simplify application modernization of Java EE apps, IBM Cloud Transformation Advisor is available to all IBM Cloud Private customers at no additional charge.
Migrating traditional WebSphere apps to Websphere Liberty on the cloud
But what’s involved in the migration of your traditional WebSphere apps to those based on WebSphere Liberty in the cloud? In this hands-on lab, you’ll start with a classical eCommerce application, Plants By WebSphere:
IBM’s Transformation Advisor will scan the app’s binaries and identify compatibility issues; it will also generate a “migration bundle” that comprises build artifacts like the Docker-required manifest, saving you time and reducing errors. In less than two hours, you’ll understand and will have completed a migration following this general flow:

Are you interested in migrating your WebSphere apps to the cloud, but want to better understand what’s involved before committing to a hands-on lab? Then check out session #4941 Transformation Advisor: The On-Ramp to the Cloud for Java Applications on the Modernization Journey. It covers not just WebSphere, but other JEE application servers like Red Hat JBoss/WildFly and Oracle WebLogic. This session will further explain the migration process and how Transformation Advisor provides estimates of the work effort based on a simple/moderate/complex assessment of the code base.
For a broader perspective on cloud adoption trends and strategy, plan to attend session #2130A Application Modernization to Migrate and Manage Existing Applications in a Cloud World with Danny Mace, IBM VP Application Platform.
