There are exciting new capabilities that integrate additional operational tools into IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service. Here’s how to get started with them.

These tools will assist customers in troubleshooting and monitoring their application health and performance in this new container and microservices world.

We have made it even easier to connect existing IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service clusters with IBM Cloud Monitoring with Sysdig and IBM Cloud Log Analysis with LogDNA and launch the native consoles and dashboards for deep insights into your apps. With the auto-agent install and one-click launch out within your cluster context, you can now collect and access all your performance and operational data in the form of logs and metrics for your Kubernetes clusters.

Let’s learn how we can get started with these new integrations.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Log into IBM Cloud.
  2. Navigate to the IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service cluster view:
  3. Select the desired cluster:
  4. On the Overview page, select the Connect button for Logging:
  5. If you have an existing IBM Cloud Log Analysis with LogDNA instance, select it. If not, you can create a new instance now. Click Connect:
  6. On the Overview page, select the Connect button for Monitoring.
  7. If you have an existing IBM Cloud Monitoring with Sysdig instance, select it. If not, you can create a new instance now. Click Connect:
  8. Once the agents have successfully deployed, you can now Launch the individual consoles for Sysdig and LogDNA:
  9. Within the LogDNA console, I can create custom dashboards and alerts. Additionally, I can use natural language to quickly search my log files:
  10. Within the Sysdig console, I can also create custom dashboards and alerts. This view is taking me in context to this single IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service to understand performance characteristics of the application or cluster level:

What is the IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service?

IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service is a managed container service offering that leverages Kubernetes as the container orchestration solution. It delivers powerful management tools, an intuitive user experience, and built-in security and isolation to enable rapid delivery of applications, all while leveraging Cloud Services and cognitive capabilities from Watson. As a certified CNCF Kubernetes provider, IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service provides native Kubernetes capabilities like intelligent scheduling, self-healing, horizontal scaling, service discovery and load balancing, automated rollouts and rollbacks, and secret and configuration management.

What is Cloud Monitoring?

IBM Cloud Monitoring with Sysdig is a fully managed enterprise-grade monitoring service that offers administrators, DevOps teams, and developers full stack telemetry with advanced features to monitor and troubleshoot, define alerts, and design custom dashboards. Use it to gain operational visibility into the performance and health of your applications, services, and infrastructure and solve the problem of traditional monitoring tools outstripped by the exponential growth of hosts and applications.

To add monitoring features with IBM Cloud Monitoring with Sysdig in the IBM Cloud, you provision an instance of the IBM Cloud Monitoring with Sysdig service. IBM Cloud Monitoring with Sysdig is operated by Sysdig in partnership with IBM.

What is Log Analysis?

IBM Cloud Log Analysis with LogDNA enables you to quickly find the source of issues and gain deeper insight into application and cloud environment data. IBM Cloud logging begins with log aggregation from application and services within IBM Cloud. IBM partners with LogDNA to bring collection, log tailing, and blazing fast log search. LogDNA supports integrations to many cloud native runtimes and environments. LogDNA search and filtering can be accomplished through natural language query, enabling you to find issues quickly and easily integrate it into your operations.
