We’re pleased to announce IBM Cloud VPC is GA in the Dallas, Frankfurt and Tokyo regions—soon expanding to London and Sydney regions.

IBM Cloud Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) starts a new generation of IBM Cloud infrastructure. Designed from the ground up for cloud-native workloads, VPC provides a brand-new experience to manage virtual machine-based compute, storage, and networking resources in a private, secure space you define. Simply put, VPC provides the logical isolation and security of a private cloud with the availability, cost-effectiveness, and scalability of the public cloud, simplifying the deployment of secure, available, and resilient workloads.

Getting started is easy—IBM Cloud customers can simply click on the new VPC Infrastructure option in the IBM Cloud console. From there, they will be guided through creating a new VPC environment.

Built on a solid foundation

The IBM Cloud VPC is available in the Dallas, Frankfurt, Tokyo, London and Sydney regions. The quick global expansion of VPC availability reflects IBM’s continued commitment to investment and innovations that enhance customers’ experience with a secure, agile and resilient cloud. VPC is available in IBM Cloud multi-zone regions (MZRs), each of which contains multiple availability zones with independent and redundant resources to eliminate any shared single point of failure; thus, ensuring robust business continuity. With redundant high-speed connections between availability zones, VPC enables agile and responsive workloads for a better customer experience.

Tools and models that developers will love

To support the needs of cloud-native developers, IBM created an all-new, modern application programming interface (API) to manage the infrastructure resources. This REST-based API is aligned to the rest of the industry, easing integration into existing applications and toolsets. Further, the UI experience conveniently shows API requests and responses to accelerate your adoption.

For those who prefer the command line interface (CLI), the IBM Cloud CLI has been updated to support the new API.

Fully integrated into the IBM Cloud platform

VPC builds on and extends the developer-friendly and intuitive controls and features that have become core to the IBM Cloud platform capabilities, including integration with IBM Cloud Identity and Access Manager (IAM) and Resource Controller, support of resource groups and tagging.

Strong connectivity options

IBM Cloud VPC makes it simple to integrate into your existing networks, whether on-premises or in the cloud. Take advantage of IBM Cloud Direct Link to create a direct, private connection between your existing network environments and the IBM Cloud, all while confidently extending your own IP space onto the cloud via Bring-your-own-IP.

Use the VPN service to create an encrypted tunnel into a VPC or enable the “Classic Access” feature of VPC to seamlessly connect to bare metal or virtual servers in an existing IBM Cloud Classic infrastructure account.

Customer use cases

The all-new experience and strong connectivity options make IBM Cloud VPC the ideal platform to host virtual machine-based cloud-native workloads.

  • Host cloud-native applications: From simple public websites to complex, multi-tier applications architectures, IBM Cloud VPC makes it fast and easy to host cloud-native applications securely on the public cloud.
  • Host hybrid applications: IBM Cloud VPC securely connects to existing data centers, allowing applications to take advantage of the elasticity, agility, and global reach of the public cloud while leveraging your existing IT investments.
  • Extend existing networks to the cloud: Move internal corporate applications to the cloud, provide additional capacity, or plan for peak capacity by securely extending your on-premises data center network into IBM Cloud VPC.

By hosting your business applications and websites on IBM Cloud VPC, you can take advantage of elastic load balancing and the resiliency of availability zones, in addition to granular, secure virtual firewalls.

Modernizing child support enforcement with IBM and AWS

7 min read - With 68% of child support enforcement (CSE) systems aging, most state agencies are currently modernizing them or preparing to modernize. More than 20% of families and children are supported by these systems, and with the current constituents of these systems becoming more consumer technology-centric, the use of antiquated technology systems is archaic and unsustainable. At this point, families expect state agencies to have a modern, efficient child support system. The following are some factors driving these states to pursue modernization:…
