What's new in z/OS V2R3 Communications Server
In V2R3, z/OS® enhances security and data protection by introducing z/OS Encryption Readiness Technology and updating AT-TLS to support features provided by System SSL. V2R3 also provides improved simplification and usability via new Configuration Assistant features.
Shared Memory Communications - Direct Memory Access (SMC-D)
IBM® z/OS V2R3 offers new support for fast low-latency TCP/IP traffic between LPARs within a CPC using the Shared Memory Communications – Direct Memory Access (SMC-D) software protocol over firmware-provided Internal Shared Memory (ISM) devices. SMC-D is expected to offer substantial performance, throughput, response time and CPU consumption benefits versus standard TCP/IP communications over HiperSockets™. This support is available on z/OS V2R2 via APARs OA48411 and PI45028.
Improved scalability with z/OS V2R2 Communications Server
z/OS V2R2 provides improved scalabilty by enabling the TCP/IP stack and its strategic device drivers to utilize 64-bit storage. V2R2 also provides improved scalabilty for Enterprise Extender and the Internet Key Exchange daemon (IKED), and raises the limit for the number of application-instance dynamic virtual IP addresses (DVIPAs) for a single TCP/IP stack from 1024 to 4096. z/OS Encryption Readiness Technology (zERT)
In z/OS V2R3, Communications Server provides encryption-readiness technology for z/OS administrators to determine which TCP and Enterprise Extender traffic patterns to and from their z/OS systems meet approved encryption criteria and which do not. In March 2018, Communications Server enhances zERT to summarize high volumes of granular zERT SMF records into a condensed SMF representation.
IBM Configuration Assistant for z/OS Communications Server
The Configuration Assistant for z/OS Communications Server, an optional GUI-based tool, provides a guided interface to help you create and manage TCP/IP profiles, and simplify configuration of TCP/IP policy-based networking functions.
