Windows 7 64-bit Eclipse Java core dump during installation from update site

Troubleshooting


Problem

During an installation using an Eclipse update site, you may see a Java core dump occur and Eclipse will close. This has been seen to occur only on Windows 7.

Symptom

During an installation from an Eclipse update site, Eclipse closes unexpectedly. Details about the java core dump may be found in the eclipse logs:

JVMDUMP006I Processing dump event "gpf", detail "" - please wait.

A series of files may be located in the eclipse installation directory: javacore.<timestamp>.txt, Snap.<timestamp>.trc, and core.<timestamp>.dmp.
