If you are installing one of the server components see the appropriate README file in the root directory on the server CD of the install media 2.1 Hardware requirements -------------------------- IBM Remote API Client for Windows x64 requires an AMD64 or Intel EM64T system supported by one of the Microsoft Windows operating systems listed in section 2.2.1 Operating system version. 2.2 Software requirements -------------------------- 2.2.1 Operating system version ------------------------------------- This version of IBM Remote API Client for Windows x64 has been tested with the following operating system versions. Microsoft Windows 10 x64 Edition Microsoft Windows Server 2016 x64 Edition Microsoft Windows Server 2019 x64 Edition Microsoft Windows 11 x64 Edition Microsoft Windows Server 2022 x64 Edition 2.3 Installation process ------------------------- 2.3.1 Installing the IBM Remote API Client for Windows ------------------------------------------------------ If you have a previous level of IBM Remote API Client for Windows already installed, follow the steps in section 3 to remove it before installing this new level. Any old configuration information will be removed and will have to be re-entered when the new install is done. - To install the v7.1.1.0 level of the IBM Remote API Client for Windows: 1. Copy the i_w64cli.exe file to your computer. This file is on the Remote API Clients CD in the ibm-commserver-clients/win-x64 directory. The copy must be done in binary mode. For example, use "ftp" with the binary mode command. 2. Run this file which will unpack itself and start the installer program. 3. When the install has completed, you can delete the i_w64cli.exe file from the working directory. 2.3.2 Installing the Win64 SDK ------------------------------- To install the Win64 SDK, complete the steps as described above but choose "Developer" as the Setup Type. 2.3.3 'Silent' installation ---------------------------- To get a completely silent (no prompts) installation on Windows you must first extract the files from the self-extracting installation file i_w64cli.exe. Once the files have been extracted into a temporary directory, run the setup program with at least these parameters set: setup.exe -i -accept -s from a Windows Command Prompt which has administrator authority. Refer to the Quick Beginnings book for configuring Remote API Client on Windows for details on the parameters for the silent install option. 2.3.4 Possible Errors ---------------------- If running i_w64cli.exe produces an error such as "This program cannot be run in DOS mode.", this typically means that the i_w64cli.exe file has been copied to your computer using an ASCII copy, not a binary copy. Check the sizes of the file in the two locations. If a binary copy was done, they will be the same size; if the sizes are different, then try the copy of the i_w64cli.exe file again. If an install window is 'buried' or hidden underneath other windows, use the ALT+TAB keyboard sequence to find the current window. If you see a message during uninstall like: RUNDLL Error loading Ctor.dll then simply install the IBM Remote API Client for Windows again, then the uninstall will be able to complete. To avoid getting that error, reboot the Windows system after installing or uninstalling the IBM Remote API Client for Windows. 3. Uninstallation information ------------------------------ Close the IBM Remote API Client for Windows Monitor program if it is running. It can be stopped from the taskbar by right-clicking on the Monitor icon. Using an Administrator priviledged command prompt, stop the Remote API client server, "net stop sxclient". To uninstall the Windows client using system control panels, select the Windows "Add or Remove Programs" utility to remove the IBM Remote API Client for Windows: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs To uninstall the Windows client using a command line prompt, start a command prompt as with Administrator rights. The issue this command: \ibmcs\w64cli\sxcluninst -y. Reboot the Windows system to remove in-memory DLLs. See the "Quick Beginnings" manual for more information. When the IBM Remote API Client for Windows is uninstalled its configuration information will be removed from the Windows registry, so it will have to be re-configured when installed again. 4.
