Slow performance when importing data (e.g flat file) into Controller, caused by defect APAR PI28089

Troubleshooting

Problem

User clicks "Transfer -> External data -> Import from Flat Files". User chooses an  import specification, and then selects "client" under Import File provider. User then browses to where the import file (TXT or CSV) file is located. User clicks "Run".   This process takes a very long time. The slow imports may appear intermittent (depending on the environment). Similar symptoms may also appear when importing from staging tables

Symptom

In one real-life customer example:

  • Import example #1 originally took 18 minutes. After the upgrade, it took 2:30 minutes (7 times faster).
  • Import example #2 originally took 60 minutes. After the upgrade, it took 10:40 minutes (almost 6 times faster).
