Upgrading IBM Case Manager to IBM Business Automation Workflow 23.0.1

To upgrade IBM Case Manager to IBM Business Automation Workflow, complete the following instructions:

  1. Download IBM Business Automation Workflow 22.0.2 from Passport Advantage.
  2. Download the IBM Business Automation Workflow 23.0.1 cumulative fix repository to a local directory.
    For more information, see Downloading the repositories to the local system. If you are installing the fix pack interactively by using IBM Installation Manager to connect to the live repository, this step is not required.
  3. Install IBM Business Automation Workflow 23.0.1.
    For more information, see Installing and Configuring IBM Business Automation Workflow and its OS-specific custom installation subtopics (such as the Linux topic Installing IBM Business Automation Workflow).
    Follow the custom installation and configuration path and use a properties file for BPMConfig from the /externalicnexternalcpe folder.  For more guidance, see the optional step 3 in Upgrading your IBM Case Manager system by using an external IBM Content Navigator.

    Note:
    If you use the launchpad for installation and you have Internet access, you must include the fix pack from the live repository during installation. When you start the launchpad, you are also prompted to update the launchpad. Click Update. Otherwise, if you do not have Internet access, you must install the fix pack and the launchpad update (if you want to use the launchpad) from local directories:
    1. From http://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/websphere/bpm/repositories/server/launchpad/1800/, download both files for the launchpad interim fix and put them into a directory on your local system.
    2. Create the following file:
      On Windows:  C:/users/user_name/bpm_updates.properties
      On Linux or UNIX:  /user_home_directory/bpm_updates.properties
    3. In the bpm_updates.properties file, add text to point to the location of the fix pack and the launchpad interim fix in your local system, for example:
      launchpad.1=interim_fix_location
      fixpack.BPM_CF=local_repository_path
      For more information about installing upgrades from a local directory, see step 1 of Installing and configuring Workflow Center in the product documentation.
    Note:
    - It is generally recommended that you upgrade from IBM Case Manager V5.3.3. If you want to upgrade from a different version with a supported upgrade path, such as V5.3.2 or V5.2.1.7, see Troubleshooting system upgrades.  Upgrades from IBM Case Manager V5.2.1.7 to Business Automation Workflow 22.0.2 or later requires a two-step upgrade.  You must upgrade to IBM Case Manager V5.3.3 or Business Automation Workflow 21.0.3 first, then you can upgrade to Business Automation Workflow 22.0.2 and later.
    - Rolling upgrade is not available as a solution upgrade is required when you upgrade from IBM Case Manager to IBM Business Automation Workflow 23.0.1.
  4. Review the information in the IBM Documentation help topic Upgrading IBM Case Manager to IBM Business Automation Workflow. It provides guidance on configuring an external Content Platform Engine and external IBM Content Navigator. After you reviewed the information, follow the instructions in Upgrading your IBM Case Manager system by using an external IBM Content Navigator.

    Note: Ensure that the external Content Platform Engine that you configure with IBM Business Automation Workflow is the existing Content Platform Engine environment that is being used with IBM Case Manager for your Design Object Store and Target Object Store. With this configuration, you can continue to see the solutions that were created in IBM Case Manager, from both a design and runtime perspective, in IBM Business Automation Workflow.
    Note: Also, ensure that the external IBM Content Navigator that you configure with IBM Business Automation Workflow is the existing IBM Content Navigator environment that is used with IBM Case Manager. With this configuration, you can continue to use the same configurations and customizations in IBM Content Navigator after you upgrade to IBM Business Automation Workflow.
    Note: Ensure that the properties for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) configuration used by both IBM Business Automation Workflow and FileNet Content Manager are matching.
    For example, the user and group name attributes:
    - Business Automation Workflow - user-full-name-prop and group-name-prop
    - Content Platform Engine - userShortNameAttribute and GroupNameAttribute
    For more information, refer Configuring the user registry and Directory service providers.
  5. Configure Content Security Policy for IBM Business Automation Workflow and IBM Content Navigator.  For more information, see How To Resolve "Refused to load <something> because it violates the following Content Security Policy directive" error
  6. Upgrade the existing solutions. See Upgrading and converting case solutions.
  7. If you use extended capabilities in IBM Case Manager, such as IBM Forms, refer to the help topic Extending your case management system.
  8. If you use embedded business rules with IBM Case Manager, copy ODMMessages.jar to Content Platform Engine server.  For more information, see known issue Deployment of rules fails during solution deployment in IBM Business Automation Workflow.
  9. If you want more information about more installation options, silent installation, or rollback of IBM Business Automation Workflow 22.0.2, select the Installing the cumulative fix tab.
