All users of Enhanced HOLDDATA for z/OS who downloaded Enhanced HOLDDATA between 10 September 2020 at time 06:15 GMT and 11 September 2020 at 23:30 GMT.

Abstract

Enhanced HOLDDATA is incomplete.  Using SMP/E with the incomplete Enhanced HOLDDATA can unexpectedly lead to installing PTFs that are in error (PE) and failing to install PTFs that fix HIPER APARs.

Description

As of 10 September 2020 at 06:15 GMT, the Enhanced HOLDDATA files do not contain any ++HOLD statements for PE and HIPER PTFs for any days before 10 September 2020.  If this Enhanced HOLDDATA file is used, then PE and HIPER designation of PTFs might not be accurately reflected in SMP/E.  This omission affects all of the following Enhanced HOLDDATA download files

  • ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/s390/holddata/quarter.bin
  • ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/s390/holddata/year.bin
  • ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/s390/holddata/full.bin
  • ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/s390/holddata/yrs3.bin
This omission also affects HOLDDATA obtained by using a PTF service delivery offering such as:
  • ShopZ service orders
  • SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER

Recommended Action

Any users who obtained the Enhanced HOLDDATA between 10 September 2020 at 06:15 GMT and 11 September 2020 at 23:30 GMT must reobtain the current Enhanced HOLDDATA by using your normal delivery method.
