Converting a hijack to a checkout in an automatic view

Question & Answer

Question

How do I convert a hijack to a checkout in an automatic view?

Answer

When you update an automatic view after hijacking a file, the updated version of the file will be newer than the hijacked version if someone created a new version after you hijacked that file. In this case, an attempt to convert the highjack to a checkout fails as follows:

3206 CCW_RPCS_CHECKOUT_HIJACK_NOT_LOADED "CRMSV3206: The hijacked version \"%s\" differs from the loaded version \"%s\".\n"

3207 CCW_RPCS_CHECKOUT_HIJACK_EVIL_TWIN "CRMSV3207: The hijacked version is from a different element (\"evil twin\") than the loaded version.\n"

To fix the problem,

  1. Compare your hijacked version to its predecessor; for example, using the diff command. The result will be the differences between your hijacked version and the version that you hijacked it from (not between your hijack and the latest version). Save the differences so you can apply them later.
  2. Unhijack the file, specifying the "keep" option.
  3. Check out the loaded version.
  4. Carefully apply the changes that you saved.
