Netfinity provides a MIF generator utility called SIMIFMAK. This utility can be used to generate a MIF containing data about your system configuration. MIF (Management Information Format) is a syntax defined by the Desktop Management Task Force (DMTF) for use in its Desktop Management Interface to describe components. The parameters for this utility are as follows:
SIMIFMAK template_file output_file | optional | /SMS | optiona l|
There are two template files provided with the Netfinity product. The template, system.mft, provides data like the one reported by Netfinity's DMI instrumentation about the system configuration. The template file, sms.mft, provides a subset of this information for use within a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) network. The /SMS parameter allows for the output file to be created in the directory specified by the SMS.INI file for custom mifs. When the sms.mft template is used, the /SMS parameter must be the second parameter and the output file will default to sistatic.mif. The Netfinity Custom MIF extensions for SMS will then be picked up during SMS's next inventory cycle.
