IT47846: UNEXPECTED SIZE INCREASE OF THE VSNAP CONFIG BACKUP AFTER UPGRADE TO 10.1.16.3

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Starting with version 10.1.16.3, the size of the IBM Storage
  Protect Plus vSnap configuration backup with the command :
  'vsnap system config backup --outfile <TargetFileName>'
  is seen to be significantly bigger than for previous versions.
  As an example, a vSnap config backup that used to have a size of
  
  ~40KB was seen after upgrade to version 10.1.16.3 to have a size
  
  of ~195MB.
  This is due to a missing cleanup step after the upgrade of the
  internal mongo database.

Local fix

• Once the vSnap is validated to be operational after the upgrade
  to version 10.1.16.3, the pre-upgrade mongo DB backup data can
  be deleted by deleting the following vSnap folder :
  /etc/vsnap/mongo-upgrade-backup

Problem conclusion

• The size of the IBM Storage Protect Plus vSnap configuration
  backup with the command :
  'vsnap system config backup --outfile <TargetFileName>' is seen
  to be significantly bigger than for previous versions.
  
  In IBM Storage Protect Plus 10.1.17.1, the issue is resolved by
  deleting the /etc/vsnap/mongo-upgrade-backup/ folder when the
  vsnap system config backup command is executed for the first
  time after upgrading to 10.1.17.1.
