Error description
Starting with version 10.1.12, SAP HANA workloads can be protected with IBM Storage Protect Plus. The log purge operation at the end of a backup job for a SAP HANA instance can intermittently report the following in the job log : SUMMARY,..,CTGGS0322,[<SAPHostAddress>] Starting log purge operation DETAIL,..,CTGGS0046,[<SAPHostAddress>] Deleted logfile /mnt/spp/vsnap/vpool1/ fs<xxx>/ <SAPHostIPwithUnderscoreSeparators>/ <DBName>/<logFileName> ... ERROR,..,CTGGS0147,[<SAPHostAddress>] The IBM Spectrum Protect Plus agent cannot delete the log backups for the <SAPHostAddress> / <SAPInstanceName> instance because it failed to retrieve the list of available files from the path /mnt/spp/vsnap/vpool1/ fs<xxx>/ <SAPHostIPwithUnderscoreSeparators>/ <DBName> ERROR,..,CTGGS5119,[<SAPHostAddress>] Command line '/opt/IBM/ SPP/agents_sppagent/python_Linux_x86_64/bin /python3 /tmp/tmp76uk86vh' has ended with exit code 1. The backup job then ends in PARTIAL status : DETAIL,..,CTGGA0804,Protection task 2 completed in 1 hr(s) 14 min(s) 19 sec(s) and ended with status PARTIAL. SAP HANA uses a temporary "<.log_backup_...>" file when a DB transaction log is being generated. When the transaction log is full, the "<.log_backup_...>" file moves to a regular SAP HANA transaction log file name and SAP HANA generates a next transaction file. The above message happens when, for busy SAP HANA instances, the SPP log purge processing finds such "<.log_backup_...>" file. It is then unable to delete it because that temporary file already disappeared from the transaction logs directory by the time the deletion request is executed. This does not affect the integrity of the backup and the restore point is correctly created in SPP from which the protected data can be restored. Problem conclusion
This issue can be seen at the customer environment, when the logpurge and log backup operations are taking place at the same and there is a any delay of transferring logbackup files between VSNAP and application server. Fix applied at SPP "SAPHANA agent" side, don't apply the logpurge operation to the "log backup files" while log backup operation is using those files, The log purge operation only applies to log backup files after the log backup operation has completed.
