IT47746: UNEXPECTED PENDING GUEST PROTECTION STATUS IN VM BACKUP JOB IN MULTI-HYPERVISOR ENVIRONMENT

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• For an IBM Storage Protect Plus SLA protecting a group of VMs
  managed by multiple hypervisors, the VM backup job correctly
  will end in partial status when incorrect credentials are used
  for one out of the multiple hypervisors.
  However, the incorrect individual VM backup completion status
  'pending' will be seen for VMs managed by an hypervisor for
  which the correct credentials are used.
  The correct behaviour for such a situation is to successfully
  protect VMs where the correct credentials are used for their
  respective hypervisors and fail protection only for VMs managed
  by the hypervisor whose credentials are incorrect.
  
  Here is a job log example in a 2 VMware vCenter environment
  where :
  - VM_1 managed by Hypervisor_1 with incorrect credentials stored
  
   in the appliance
  - VM_2 managed by Hypervisor_2 with correct credentials stored
   in the appliance

Problem conclusion

• The problem occurs when an exception occurs during the failure
  of vCenter connection in the Backup job. The exception is
  handled gracefully to allow the Backup job to continue with the
  process for other Virtual Machines. This issue will be corrected
  in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.17.1 and later.
