Image Catalog support is extended to support virtual optical media libraries. An image catalog can now be loaded into a 632B-001 virtual optical device in library mode. In library mode the virtual device can be used as a virtual optical library, where all of the images in the catalog are available and accessible concurrently. Virtual optical media images of type WORM and erasable/rewritable can now be created using ADDIMGCLGE. These media types are used for archive, and are intended for use in a virtual optical library.

See IBM i Virtual Optical Storage for additional information.

The 632C-002 client virtual optical device now supports an embedded media changer when the virtual storage server partition is an IBM i. The automatic media switching capability of virtual optical device type 632B on a server IBM i partition has been extended to client partition virtual optical device type 632C. This new switching capability allows the use of image catalogs for unattended installations of client partitions. The new switching capability also allows users to manually or programmatically switch media in a client virtual optical device without requiring authority to the serving partition.

See Supported hardware for optical storage for additional information.
