Migrating and upgrading your applications

You can migrate applications from previous versions of Operational Decision Manager, as well as applications developed in WebSphere® Operational Decision Management, JRules, Rules for COBOL, and Rules for .NET.

Note:

To migrate applications from a previous version of Decision Server Insights, follow the instructions under Updating Decision Server Insights.

Deprecated features
The features that are listed in this table are deprecated or removed. Best practice is to migrate from deprecated features as soon as possible.
Migration scenarios
Before migrating, you must assess the impact of the new version of Operational Decision Manager on your applications. Migrating to a new version of Operational Decision Manager can require you to upgrade your databases, application servers, or both.
Preparing your migration
Before you can start migrating your applications to a new version of Operational Decision Manager, you must ensure that your system is ready and up-to-date.
Migrating customizations
If you customized your development environment in any way in a previous version, you must reapply your customizations to the new version. Examples of customization include changes to rule model extensions, extension mechanisms for permissions, lifecycle management, and any modification to the editors.
Migrating the development environment
After you have migrated your customizations to the new version of Operational Decision Manager, you can migrate your Eclipse projects and rule projects.
Migrating the runtime environment
The runtime environment is your application running in production, in contrast to other phases of the application lifecycle.
Migrating the Decision Center database
If you migrate from version 8.5 or earlier versions, you must migrate rule projects that are created before Decision Center version 8.8.1 because the database schema changed between previous releases and the current release.
Migrating from Rules for COBOL V7
Changes from one release to the next can impact business rule application development in a number of ways. The following information explains how to migrate applications developed in Rules for COBOL V7.

How to migrate rule projects and business object models developed in Rules for .NET V7.1. Migration from Rules for .NET versions prior to 7.1 require that you migrate to Rules for .NET V7.1 before you can migrate to the current version.
Rolling upgrade of Operational Decision Manager
To upgrade Operational Decision Manager from Vn to Vn+1 while keeping your existing system running, you can upgrade the system gradually, component by component. This process is known as a rolling upgrade.
