The FREE keyword specifies the address of the extract buffer that was returned by a previous extract request. If the extract request did not obtain storage, register 1 would be zero. If register 1 is not zero, it is the caller’s responsibility to free the storage as described by its first four bytes of the extract header layout (shown in Table 1).
