Using Thesaurus-driven Conceptual Search Process Overview

About this task

The basic tasks involved in using thesaurus-driven conceptual search in a Watson™ Explorer Engine search application are the following:

Procedure

  1. Add conceptual search to the project that defines your search application. Select the Simple tab on your project, and click edit in the upper right-hand corner. Scroll down to the Query Modification section. Set the value of the Enable semantic expansion variable to true and add ontolection-english-spelling-variations to the Query expansion ontolections field.
  2. Optionally change the display settings for query expansion from the display's Settings tab. Select Search >Query Expansion to make modifications.
  3. Crawl the ontolection-english-spelling-variations ontolection by opening its search collection, and clicking the start button.
  4. Optionally, you can create a custom XML ontolection. The basic structure of the file is a <thesarus> element that contains multiple <word> elements.
    • Create a search collection to hold your custom ontolection based on the generic ontolection, and define the seed to point to the location of your ontolection or thesaurus.
    • Crawl the custom ontolection by selecting the Overview tab of the search collection, and clicking the start button.
    • Add the custom ontolection to your project. Click the project's Simple tab, click edit in the upper right-hand section of the screen, and scroll down until you see the Query Modification section. Add the custom ontolection to the default ontolection by typing the name of the default ontolection and then the name of your custom ontolection in the Query expansion ontolections field.
