Using Data-Driven Conceptual Search Process Overview

About this task

The basic tasks involved in using data-driven conceptual search in a Watson™ Explorer Engine search application are the following:

Procedure

  1. Add conceptual search to the project that defines your search application. Select the Simple tab on your project, and click edit in the upper right-hand corner. Scroll down to the Query Modification section. Set the value of the Enable semantic expansion variable to true.
  2. Optionally, you can change the display settings for query expansion from the display's Settings tab. Select Search > Query Expansion to make modifications.
  3. Ensure that the search collection to be used with data-driven conceptual search has been crawled and indexed.
  4. Create a small domain list or a wildcard dictionary from the search collection. To create a wildcard dictionary, click the Add icon () besides the Dictionaries listing in the left-hand Watson Explorer Engine navigation menu. Enter a name, and click Add. Click the Inputs tab, and click the Add Input Source button. Select the search collection or domain list for the wildcard dictionary, and click Add. Return to the Overview button. Edit the Meta Information section to change Input Stemmer to case+depluralize. Click build to build the wildcard dictionary.
  5. Create a Conceptual Context Signature (CCS) collection. Click the Add icon () besides the Search Collections listing in the left-hand Watson Explorer Engine navigation menu. Enter a name for the collection, and set the Copy defaults from field to ccs-collection-default. Configure the Seeds to point to your domain collection and domain list or wildcard dictionary. Crawl the collection.
  6. Create a CS Ontolection. Click the Add icon () besides the Search Collections listing in the left-hand Watson Explorer Engine navigation menu. Enter a name for the collection, and set the Copy defaults from field to cs-ontolection-default. Click Add. On the Configuration tab, Crawling sub-tab, configure the Seeds to point to the CCS collection created in the previous step. Crawl the collection.
  7. Add the cs-ontolection to your project. Click the project's Advanced tab, select the Metasearch sub-tab, click edit in the upper right-hand section of the screen, and scroll down until you see the Query Modification section. Add the custom ontolection to the default ontolection by typing the name of the default ontolection and then the name of your cs-ontolection in the Query Expansion ontolections field. Modify the query-expansion.suggestion variable, and add the term suggested to the list.
