Reporting

Jazz® Reporting Service is the default reporting solution for the IBM IoT CE/CLM solutions. You can also use the built-in BIRT reports with CLM, ALM Cognos Connector for Cognos-based reports, or purchase IBM® Rational® Publishing Engine for producing document-style reports.

The reporting applications automatically gather metrics from the applications that you use and presents the data in a consistent way so that you can objectively measure and track status and progress. The reporting applications use data from your projects to produce documents, charts, graphs, and dashboards that help your organization to:
  • Gain insight into project performance and health through objective and consistent reporting.
  • Manage and mitigate project risks, reduce time-to-market, and improve product quality.
  • Control project costs and improve global development efficiencies.
  • Enforce governance and achieve compliance in a changing global environment.

Jazz Reporting Service

Jazz Reporting Service has three components:
  • Report Builder: Provides an easy-to-use interface where you can create your own reports or run predefined reports.
  • Lifecycle Query Engine(LQE): Indexes the data from across your projects for near-live reporting and reporting on configurations.
  • Data Collection Component(DCC): Populates the built-in data warehouse to gather data for your reports

If you need to customize your reports further or require high-quality printable documents with front and back matter, you can purchase Rational Publishing Engine to automate the generation of document-style reports across your deployed Jazz™ and third-party tools.

Reporting with Cognos

If you use Cognos®-based reports on data in the data warehouse, you can use the ALM Cognos Connector. The connector enables a Jazz Team Server to connect to an existing Cognos Business Intelligence or Cognos Analytics server that is deployed in a IBM WebSphere® Application Server environment. When the connector is configured, you can create and manage Cognos-based reports based on the artifacts from the Jazz Team Server.

Reporting on IBM CE/CLM products

You can produce graphs and charts, or document-style reports about artifacts from the following products:
  • IBM Rational DOORS® Next Generation
  • IBM Rational DOORS
  • IBM Rational Team Concert®
  • IBM Rational Quality Manager
  • IBM Rational ClearQuest®
You can also generate document-style reports with Rational Publishing Engine for these additional products:
  • IBM Rational Rhapsody® and Rhapsody Model Manager
  • Design Management
  • IBM Rational Change
  • IBM Rational ClearCase®
  • Atlassian JIRA and other JSON data sources
  • HP ALM
  • UNICOM Focal Point
Graphs and charts can be embedded in dashboards, and longer documents can be exported and printed. To learn more about the available solutions and to decide which reporting tools best fit your organization's needs, see Deciding which CE/CLM reporting option to use.

Data sources

You can report on current data, historical trends, aggregations, and other relationships among data. Your reports can use one of these data sources:
  • Lifecycle Query Engine: An index of your current lifecycle data. If you are using configurations, your report includes all the versions of each artifact type across those configurations.
  • Lifecycle Query Engine scoped by a configuration: An index of versioned artifacts grouped into a configuration.
  • Data warehouse: Data Collection Component (or the ALM Cognos Connector) collects data from the applications and stores it in the built-in data warehouse for reporting. Reports reflect the state of the data when it was loaded into the data warehouse; the frequency can be as low as 10 minutes.
Document-style reports and reports about versioned artifacts do not use data warehouse data. Document-style reports query data directly from the application data source. If you enable configuration management, the Requirements Management and Quality Management applications no longer send feeds to the data warehouse; they now use Lifecycle Query Engine. You can also use IBM Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager to visualize relationships in your engineering data.
